What is Direct FUE?
Why choose Direct FUE?
Every hair transplant we perform is tailored to you. The direct FUE method permits our surgeons to create a natural looking hairline that compliments your facial structure and personal style preferences.
Because the direct FUE method involves simultaneous removal and implantation, the follicles experience less trauma than when using traditional methods. As a result:
- less scarring and post-operative pain
- faster recovery
- return to daily routine quicker than with traditional methods
The direct FUE method increases the likelihood of follicle survival and mimics the natural growth of your original hair because the follicle spends the least amount of time outside of your body. You’ll begin to notice changes in your appearance shortly after the surgery and your new hair will continue to grow over the next several months.
Before & After Photos
How does the procedure work?

Phase 1 – Consultation & Design
Direct FUE builds upon the success of traditional FUE, by combining the extraction and implantation of grafts. Unlike traditional FUE where all grafts are removed first and then implanted later, Direct FUE implants the grafts directly into the scalp as they are being removed allowing for greater viability and less handling of the grafts.

Phase 2 – Extraction Phase
Once you're under local anesthesia, we will extract individual follicular units from the donor zone (back of your head), these are the hairs that are least susceptible to hair loss.

Phase 3 – Direct Implantation
We use high precision tools to place each graft individually into the recipient site with exact control over the angle, depth and direction. By performing the two steps together, we are able to maximize the chances of graft survival and mimic the natural way your hair grows.

Phase 4 – Post-Procedure Care
Following the transplant, your surgeon will provide you with detailed instructions on caring for your scalp to promote optimal healing. The swelling and redness associated with the transplant are typically mild, and most patients can resume their usual lifestyle within a short period of time. The full effects of the transplant will become visible over the course of 8-12 months as the grafted follicles mature.
What is the difference between Direct FUE and Traditional FUE?
Both Direct FUE and Traditional FUE are modern, minimally invasive hair transplant techniques; however, the primary difference is in the level of precision, the amount of handling of the grafts and the final result in terms of naturalness.
Traditional FUE
Traditional FUE is similar to Direct FUE, but rather than placing the grafts into the scalp immediately, they are first removed from the donor area and placed in a holding container for a specified amount of time before being implanted into the recipient site. Typically, the recipient site(s) is/are prepared in advance of the grafts being inserted.
As such, the multiple stages of the traditional FUE process result in:
- Greater exposure of the graft to external factors
- Increased manipulation of the grafts
- Reduced ability to manipulate the angle, depth and direction of the grafts during insertion
Direct FUE
Direct FUE is an advancement of the FUE method and involves placing each graft into the scalp immediately after it is removed from the donor area. There is no need for prolonged storage of the grafts or preparation of the recipient site(s).
Direct FUE offers:
- Minimal trauma to the grafts
- Higher percentage of surviving grafts
- Precision in manipulating the angle, depth and direction of the grafts
- Natural appearing density and growth of the transplanted hair
- Rapid healing of the scalp and reduction in stress of the scalp
