Eyebrow Transplant
What is an Eyebrow Transplant?
The Eyebrow transplant is a type of surgical procedure in which healthy hair follicles are taken from the donor area (the back of your head) and then grafted into the eyebrow area.
The surgeon places each individual follicle in the eyebrow area in order to:
- Re-establish the natural growth pattern of eyebrow hair
- Replicate the gradual density distribution of the eyebrow area
- Establish symmetry
- Achieve a masculine facial ratio
Due to the fact that eyebrow hairs grow at a very specific angle and pattern, accuracy is key when placing these follicles.
Who is a candidate for Eyebrow Restoration?
Why is the angle and direction important?
Unlike scalp hair, eyebrow hair grows almost flat against the skin and follows a very specific directional pattern.
When placing the grafts, the surgeon must carefully control:
- The depth of the graft
- The direction of the graft
- The angle of the graft
Accurate placement of the grafts will allow for the transplanted hair to grow in a natural manner and be indistinguishable from the surrounding eyebrow hair.
Incorrectly placed grafts can cause unnatural growth patterns, thus technical skills are crucial for proper results.
The Procedure
The eyebrow transplant is done while the patient is under local anesthesia and takes place in a sterile medical environment.
The procedure includes:
- Carefully extracting individual follicular units from the donor area
- Strategically planting the follicular units in accordance with the anatomy of the eyebrow area
- Planning conservative densities
- Paying close attention to symmetry
The majority of our patients do not feel any discomfort during the procedure, and the majority of our patients feel comfortable throughout the entire procedure.
Recovery Time and Growth Cycle
Recovery time for eyebrow transplantation is generally easy.In the first few days after the surgery:
- There may be some mild redness where the hair was removed
- Protective small scabs will form around each of the implanted hairs/li>
Transplanted hairs may fall out temporarily in the first few weeks after surgery, this is part of the hair growth cycle. It may take several months for new eyebrow hair to grow in after the transplant.
Typically, patients see the final results of their eyebrow transplantation in 6-9 months.
Since the hairs that were transplanted come from the scalp, they will require regular trimming.
